最終幻想系列的超級人氣大作，本作游戲以超華麗的CG著稱于世。

然而，F(xiàn)F8也可以說是最終幻想系列中最富爭議的一代作品，游戲中無需練級的設(shè)定，真人比例造型，特殊極限技等都引起了許多老玩家的不滿。FF8與FF7的優(yōu)劣之爭也長期存在于FF的玩家中，至今仍然沒有結(jié)論。拋開這些爭議，F(xiàn)F8無疑仍是一部優(yōu)秀的游戲作品，而且游戲的音樂也保持著一貫的高水準(zhǔn)，值得一聽。仍然由Square Enix的御用作曲家植松伸夫擔(dān)當(dāng)作曲，其實(shí)由他所作曲的最終幻想系列的游戲音樂在當(dāng)今游戲音樂界里充當(dāng)一個重要角色。最終幻想8充斥著愛情、戰(zhàn)爭、召喚士的題材，因此音樂也是圍繞著他們。游戲音樂包括了舒緩抒情的，例如，"Julia" "Where I Belong" 或者 "Love Grows" ，深沉的，例如， "SeeD" "The Landing," 或者 "Movin'，神秘的，如，"Succession of Witches" "Fithos Lusec Wecos Vinosec" 或者 "Heresy"
