25歲的喬安娜·邁爾斯（薩拉·米歇爾·蓋拉）是一家運(yùn)輸公司的銷售代理，雖然事業(yè)有成，但私生活卻一團(tuán)糟--不僅與父親（薩姆·謝帕德）疏遠(yuǎn)，剛分手的前男友個(gè)性偏執(zhí)、最近更是跟蹤她不放，而且因?yàn)樾愿駨?qiáng)硬好勝，喬安娜甚至沒(méi)有幾個(gè)知心好友。
不知從何時(shí)開(kāi)始，喬安娜開(kāi)始夜夜被噩夢(mèng)驚醒，在夢(mèng)中，她親眼目睹一樁殘忍的謀殺案，但被殺的女子她卻從沒(méi)見(jiàn)過(guò)。一夜復(fù)一夜，她漸漸覺(jué)出兇手是個(gè)殘忍無(wú)比的連環(huán)殺手，而令人驚恐無(wú)比的影像甚至在日常生活中也對(duì)她纏繞不放，她開(kāi)始出現(xiàn)幻覺(jué)、偏頭痛，不斷見(jiàn)到甚至感覺(jué)到異象。
時(shí)時(shí)覺(jué)得自己的人生已經(jīng)失控的喬安娜決定反擊，于是順著噩夢(mèng)的指引找到了被殺女子的故鄉(xiāng)--德克薩斯州一個(gè)小鎮(zhèn)。到了小鎮(zhèn)之后，喬安娜更是覺(jué)得與那里有著說(shuō)不清道不明的聯(lián)系。被埋葬的秘密即將被揭開(kāi)，15年前小鎮(zhèn)上一場(chǎng)血腥的謀殺似乎與她有著千絲萬(wàn)縷的聯(lián)系，而喬安娜很可能就是兇手的下一個(gè)目標(biāo)……
