《荒野大鏢客：救贖》采用GTA4的引擎制作，不過(guò)本次更換了主人公與劇情，單人劇情的長(zhǎng)度達(dá)到了20個(gè)小時(shí)左右，而想要全要素通關(guān)更是需要上百個(gè)小時(shí)。R星還首次為游戲制造了無(wú)大廳的多人連線模式，玩家可以從中享受高自由的西部GTA風(fēng)情。

本作是Rockstar的人氣游戲《荒野大鏢客》的續(xù)作，游戲以20世紀(jì)北美殖民拓荒以及工業(yè)革命為背景，講述了主人公John Marston在沒(méi)有法律和秩序的西部荒野上的冒險(xiǎn)故事。游戲采用了大規(guī)模開(kāi)放式的場(chǎng)景，玩家可以在其中看到拓荒者城鎮(zhèn)、廣闊的草原以及山地。除了刺激的槍?xiě)?zhàn)和打斗外，玩家在游戲中還能結(jié)識(shí)許多個(gè)性迥異的角色，并與他們一起體驗(yàn)美國(guó)西部這個(gè)最后的荒野上的斗爭(zhēng)和變遷。本作使用了Rockstar自己的 RAGE引擎開(kāi)發(fā)，該引擎曾在《橫行霸道IV》以及《灣岸午夜俱樂(lè)部 洛杉磯》中都證明了自身實(shí)力。
