　在當(dāng)代的美國(guó)紐約的曼哈頓街區(qū)里隱居著一位魔法巫師巴爾薩澤•布萊克（尼古拉斯•凱奇飾），他和女巫維羅妮卡（莫妮卡•貝魯奇飾）一直與自己的宿敵馬克西姆•霍瓦斯（阿爾弗雷德•莫里納飾）在紐約的街頭巷尾里對(duì)抗著。許多年來(lái)一直未分勝負(fù)，但是由于馬克西姆憑借黑暗力量日益強(qiáng)大，巴爾薩澤深感自己不再是他的對(duì)手，因此他決定要訓(xùn)練學(xué)徒來(lái)繼承自己的衣缽，可被他寄予厚望的新徒弟戴夫•斯特特勒（杰伊•巴魯切爾飾）怎么看都不是這塊料，他整天想著的不是魔法，而是心儀的女生貝蒂（泰莉莎•帕爾墨飾）。于是，為了將他訓(xùn)練成可以與黑暗勢(shì)力對(duì)抗的魔法巫師，巴爾薩澤開始了一系列可以調(diào)動(dòng)戴夫生存勇氣的訓(xùn)練計(jì)劃……
