The 2nd Law

本張新專輯的標(biāo)題《The 2nd Law》可譯為“熱力學(xué)第二定律”，樂隊(duì)主唱Matt Bellamy在Twitter上曾有提及并闡述了他對此的想法：可能把熱從低溫物體傳到高溫物體而不產(chǎn)生其他影響；不可能從單一熱源取熱使之完全轉(zhuǎn)換為有用的功而不產(chǎn)生其他影響；不可逆熱力過程中熵的微增量總是大于零，它會增加、增加、增加，直至千瘡百孔。這一點(diǎn)也與專輯“以世界末日為主題”相呼應(yīng)。
繆斯諸人過去創(chuàng)作的歌曲多半是圍繞較冰冷、黑暗的社會議題展開，而本張專輯則第一次加入了情感題材。Matt Bellamy對此表示：“很幸運(yùn)的是我們?nèi)�人都喜歡搞搞新嘗試，因此我們盡量在每份新作中都力求突破。”因此，這次歌曲內(nèi)容會包含一些創(chuàng)作者內(nèi)心感受的同時，在專輯中新的聲音樣式、新的樂器還有新的創(chuàng)意都令人耳目一新——譬如，相比前作，這張新專輯融入了更多的Dubstep（重復(fù)性的電子低音貝斯及節(jié)拍）元素。
