Katharine McPhee(凱薩琳麥克菲)憑藉著一副天生的好歌喉加上清新亮麗的容貌及幽默風趣的個性，在第五屆的美國偶像歌唱選拔中獲得評審們一致的青睞，同時也擄獲了觀眾的心，雖然比賽結(jié)果屈居亞軍，但她早已成為許多歌迷心中的"美國偶像"。



凱薩琳在洛杉磯的郊區(qū)長大，兩歲時就愛哼哼唱唱。她的母親是音樂老師，很早就發(fā)現(xiàn)女兒的歌唱天賦，所以從小就開始訓練栽培她。高中畢業(yè)后，她進入波士頓音樂學院就讀。2005年夏天，凱薩琳報名參加美國偶像歌唱賽，第一次試鏡時便搏得三位嚴厲評審的掌聲和 贊許。2006年1月比賽正式開始，凱薩琳靠著雄厚的音樂底子一路過關斬將而歌迷人數(shù)也隨著她的聲勢高漲而日益龐大。決賽當天，總投票數(shù)高達六千三百萬票。凱薩琳現(xiàn)場演唱了全新單曲＜My Destiny＞，打動了所有觀眾的心。雖比賽最后由"Taylor Hicks"(泰勒希克斯)勝出，但凱薩琳雖敗猶榮并在兩周后與SONY BMG集團的RCA唱片公司簽約。這是她首張個人同名專輯
